LETRA DE "Night Herding Song - Colter Wall"
Oh say, little dogies, why don't you lay down?
You've wandered and trampled all over the ground
Lay down, little dogies, lay down
I've cross-herded, circle-herded, trail-herded too
But to keep you together, that's what I can't do
Bunch up, little dogies, bunch up
My horse is leg-weary and I'm awful tired
But if I let you get away I'm sure to get fired
Bunch up, little dogies, bunch up

Night Herding Song was written by Harry Stevens circa 1890. Cowboys would have to stay up in the night in shifts to watch the herd, this came to be known as one of the worst jobs a cowboy could do. Colter’s shorter version shows his woes and wishes for the cattle to lay down so he can get a little shuteye presumably.\n\nHarry explains and provides his original version in this interview below from the Library of Congress. John lomax, a pioneering musicologist, did this interview. He is worth researching for more of these older songs.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n
